What is Influenza?
The flu, or its scientific name Influenza is caused by a highly infectious virus. Influenza spreads through the air causing seasonal epidemics, which are sometimes life threatening. The flu circulates round the world yearly. As the virus spreads it slowly changes and it makes it hard for our immune system to dictate the virus for a second time. There are three types of the flu:
Type A~ Is also known as the avian or bird flu virus. Type A is changing and is generally responsible for the worldwide epidemics.
Type B~ This virus is only relevant to humans. This type of influenza causes a less severe reaction to the flu but can still be relatively harmful. Type B does not cause severe pandemics
Type C~ Is also found in people, but is much less milder then Type A and B. This type does not cause epidemics and people do not get as sick from this type of influenza.
